OK friends, meet "Lizzie"!

OH yeah....... we are just thrilled to have a pet snake! BUT Look at how excited that little girl is! :)
So slap a huge "SUCKER" sticker on my forehead, I totally deserve it!
Paca and Maddy went out last night to a thrift store and found the acrylic tank, and a light to use as a heat lamp. Then headed over to the pet store for the bedding and crickets! YUCK! Maddy has just been in heaven over this! She immediately named it ( oh and its a her according to Maddy) "Lizzie". We all set the tank up together and transfered her over. Maddy dreamed about her last night, and will NOT leave me alone about always wanting to touch her and hold her. She has made a nameplate for the cage, and wants to add glitter and has many other decorating ideas! It really is a crack up. I just think, oh well, this is what childhood is made of, right? Her own little summer adventure. And hey, its cheaper than a trip to Disneyland or that horse she's been begging for!!

Do you know how a wild snake does in captivity? We had a snake for a pet...it was a boa named Samara. We always had an odd assortment of pets while was growing up. That might be why I rebelled and won't have any pets now!

Yes! We researched extensively on Google. It's a very common and typical way to get a snake as a pet, which I did not know. Still question how long it will last, myself. We don't know how old it is, or how healthy, or IF captivity is O.k. BUT all the sites we've looked at have said that garter snakes are the perfect first pet for a child, and adapt quite quickly......we shall see about that!

I meant..IF captivity works for this little guy, even if the research says its just fine.

Don't forget the added benefit of chasing your friends with it (her)!

Well, I am glad to have only received 'Honorable Mention' and not 'Blame'! Hey, it's not my kid! Well, guess it sorta is in a way.
